check this out
https://www.mapbox.com/tilemill/

see what it does, i just briefly glanced at it, a shop in spain was using it for some cool mapping projects they did for the navy (spanish navy i assume)

people seem to be doing some sick stuff with it

Justin Bernard on December 10, 2014:

what you have so far?

Taylor Bernard on December 10, 2014:

the mapbox stuff is wicked visuals. but i'm trying to still find if it can be interactive in any way. else would have to just fake it with overlay, which actually may be best way to go anyway.

here are the requirements for the cccd submission. looks like they want 5 sketches of design ideas laid out

interesting map idea. looks like brians style

Taylor Bernard on December 10, 2014:

if we put some boring data over a map or something i think may get old quick.
what about using touch screen for data input/find/manipulation, then using a projector to spit out to something cool.
like that proj mapping over a 3d surface.

if you just had a couple data elements on each box that would look pretty cool. vs if it was just on the screen, even if it was the same thing being seen.

Justin Bernard on December 10, 2014:

lets do that, have the screen just be an interface, and all visuzliation be projected on room

how hard is the 3d mapping? software you just model the room, right

Taylor Bernard on December 10, 2014:

seen it tons before but just looking into it now....as of right this second looks a bit harder than youd think. as in no software that says 'select 4 corners'. i'll figure it out real quick how hard it is.

Justin Bernard on December 10, 2014:

the main thing would be if you can just send video content to a piece of software that handles the mapping. i.e. can we use flash app as the interface, and the vid card just sends it correctly mapped to a projector

Taylor Bernard on December 10, 2014:

this one seems to be the easiest and best. its $$$. but has a 21 day free trial license. PC only.
dl'ing to see if it does watermarking or anything on the trial. 21 days should be plenty to test on without running out if theres no other issues.

not seeing any popups or anything on the software but dont know cause cant test output. i'll email them and see if theres any restrictions on the trial version. lets just shoot for 3d mapping, and if it falls thru then just throw it on a wall.

Justin Bernard on December 10, 2014:

Cool

Find me a couple nice images of interior projection mapping I can put in proposal
