been messing with pricing. sending out emails. found about 12 suppliers that looked decent. some with glass some without. ones without say to get 3-4mm tempered glass local, cheaper that way. hopefully out of those 12 will get some quick responses.
need to source a good audio out hardware to replace this pro tools junk. sound on my mac is sketchy, real buggy.
Taylor Bernard on October 24, 2013:
ahh yeh thats the one i was thinking about. real similar name and looks like they just resell. i called those guys last time and they were super friendly and quick to answer.
Justin Bernard on October 24, 2013:
the guy that runs the peau productions biz, he actually built the physical setup for ford that i did the screen work for (the 11x17 youve been modeling).
Taylor Bernard on October 24, 2013:
looks like same pricing as earlier this year.
Justin Bernard on October 24, 2013:
3rd pan looks great. this is going to be awesome stitched together + audio
Taylor Bernard on October 24, 2013:
need to invest in a render farm
Taylor Bernard on October 24, 2013:
did you see this on that Rabbit Render farm faq? For example:
25 minutes average per frame on your computer x 1200 frames = 30,000 minutes (500 hours)
wait, that was for sensa, not pq, right? wonder if its same thing? or as good? i know people who have used pq, but i just found sencha via web search.
dang, its like more than half price of pq. 50" from pq was 1100+ i think for 10 touch points.
Taylor Bernard on October 24, 2013:
yeh i wonder how they are cutting cost. PQ looks just like an importer thats rebranding stuff. they do have some nice features like slim frame and stuff. some dont have OSX support. and those dont have glass. so tack on at least 100$ for local cut tempered glass.
Justin Bernard on October 24, 2013:
this zag stuff is calling out tuio by name, thats good. tuio is protocol i used for the ford stuff, the wall projection stuff
Justin Bernard on October 24, 2013:
think ill be able to easily find local glass cut to spec?
yeh i've seen some hilarious stuff with the CN companies. did business with one company and the secretary chick send me emails like once every 3months of them going on office vacations and pictures of where they went. hilarious.
Taylor Bernard on October 24, 2013:
yeh should be easy to find glass local. i think you need 4-6mm, so pretty thin. but i dont know how it mounts in or above the frame. so it may need to be tight tolerance. something to check on. But PQ labs guy mentioned the DIY glass as well. so should be easy to track down how difficult it is to implement in a bare frame.
Justin Bernard on October 28, 2013:
hey about to pull trigger on one of these. which one you think we should get, zag or sensa? and we've ruled out pq right? or buying from this guy in san diego? http://www.peauproductions.com/main.html
Taylor Bernard on October 29, 2013:
ghetto laid out but heres the pricing i got back from all the email. some are missing sections like touch points and shipping, like they always dont answer all the questions due to broken communication but sent out emails for responses on those parts.
i think getting glass over here is the way to go. its a roll of the dice if it will make it thru shipping. + shipping will be way more. prob 100$+ easy. which will offset glass cost.
edit: these guys local to you can get the tempered glass for 42$. about 5days lead time. so need to check on dimens and order same time as screen so no downtime. http://www.wholesaleglassandmirror.net/page2.html
Taylor Bernard on October 29, 2013:
no idea why some places are charging almost 800$ MORE than their competitors. i think getting one with good support for what we are trying to do software wise and will be good to go.
Justin Bernard on October 29, 2013:
pretty simple but helpful utility. gives x/y dimensions of screens based on diagonal size, plus % overall area difference.
people build those utility sites like that to get traffic to generate ad revenue. i wouldnt be surprised if a utility like that wasnt copied hundreds of times and just slightly modified. thats the thing about html/css/js sites as opposed to flash apps in sites, few clicks and you have 100% of the source code to do whatever you want.
Taylor Bernard on November 1, 2013:
PQ Labs-
50" only avail in G4 style. No product in stock, all ships from China. No discount, ect unless 5+ screens purchased. Says that the overlay (WITH glass) they have in stock at china at all times. if you want an "integration kit" (without glass) then for some reason it takes them longer. 7-10 days till delivery of glass version. glass shipping only adds 40$ on for some reason so 100$ shipping for glass version. 6 points, 50", with glass, shipped 1,010$ 12 points - 1,108$
Taylor Bernard on November 1, 2013:
SensaTouch says they offer mac support as well as TUIO on their site. but all i could find is a Windows driver.
they will be the one to go with once i get an email back on OSX connectivity.
517$ for a 10 touch 50", 50$ ship, no glass. 2 day lead time. they have a good website with good details. only could save prob 200$ going with cheapest source and would be more of a roll of the dice. this is less than half price of PQ and looks identical.
Justin Bernard on November 1, 2013:
let me know as soon as you get confirmation from sensa that it will run on mac/AIR/tuio. if it clears that spec, we'll order for sure... thx
